Foreign Policy

After watching our disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021, I knew that American foreign policy was in shambles. During my time in the Marine Corps and the Navy, I served around the world and saw firsthand why our nation needs to lead diplomacy abroad. That’s why I joined the House Foreign Affairs Committee when I got to Congress, where my colleagues and I work to uphold our national security interests and promote global peace.

Our country is safest and most prosperous when we use our global leadership to pursue our interests abroad and support our partners and allies. Multiple foreign deployments during my military service taught me that events overseas can impact Americans back home, and we’re better off dealing with these problems before they get anywhere near our shores. The United States can be a global leader in a strategic, fiscally responsible way, and I am committed to ensuring that any taxpayer dollars spent abroad have a clear benefit for our nation and our interests.

So far, much of my work on the Foreign Affairs Committee has focused on deterring our adversaries like China and Iran, changing the way we do export controls for critical technologies, reforming our foreign military sales process, and supporting our relationships in strategically important regions like Latin America and the Indo-Pacific. I’m excited to work with my colleagues on the Africa Subcommittee and Oversight and Intelligence Subcommittee to support American diplomacy and global leadership.
