Congressman Rich McCormick and Senator Roger Marshall Raise Concerns Over WHO Guidelines for Trans and Gender Diverse Health

WASHINGTON — Congressman Rich McCormick (GA 06) and Senator Roger Marshall (KS), both doctors, lead a bicameral group of 29 lawmakers in expressing serious concerns regarding the World Health Organization's (WHO) proposed Guideline Development Group (GDG) on the health of trans and gender diverse people. In a letter to Director-General Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, the lawmakers highlighted a range of issues, including a lack of transparency, potential conflicts of interest, and the absence of rigorous evidence-based practices in the GDG's proposed guidelines.
The letter outlines that the GDG process has been marred by irregularities, secretive practices, and allegations of manipulating scientific evidence. It also criticizes the group's decision to bypass essential evidence reviews on the safety and effectiveness of medical interventions, raising alarm about the implications for both medical ethics and global health standards.
In his statement, Congressman McCormick said, “Any guidelines that affect the health and well-being of individuals must be rooted in rigorous scientific evidence and must be free from conflicts of interest. We cannot allow the voices of powerful activists to dictate medical practices that should prioritize patient safety and health outcomes. I urge Dr. Ghebreyesus to disband this Guideline Development Group and ensure that any future guidelines are developed through a transparent, ethical, and evidence-based process.”
"The World Health Organization has abandoned its mission to cater to radical globalist activists; it is past time to stop its funding and cut our losses," Senator Marshall said. "The WHO's 'gender identity' cult and its embrace of irreversible mutilation surgeries and psychologically harmful chemical therapies are just one of the many reasons the U.S. needs to walk away from this globalist organization."
The letter calls for an immediate reevaluation of the GDG and its proposed guidelines to protect the credibility of the WHO and the health of vulnerable populations worldwide.
