Congressman McCormick is Proud to Announce The Historic Groundbreaking of Russell Creek Reservoir Project in Dawson County

April 17, 2025

DAWSONVILLE, GA - Congressman Rich McCormick proudly announced the official groundbreaking of the long-anticipated Russell Creek Reservoir—a vital infrastructure project to secure Dawson County’s water future for the next 50 years.

“This is a landmark day for Dawson County and a testament to what vision, persistence, and strong local leadership can achieve,” said Congressman McCormick. “After nearly two decades of planning, this reservoir will provide long-term water security while supporting growth, economic development, and public health for generations.”

Construction is expected to take approximately three years, followed by one year to fill the reservoir fully. Dawson County currently depends on the Etowah River for its water supply. During droughts or seasonal low flows, the county faces a shortfall of 3.8 million gallons per day. The new reservoir addresses this deficit by ensuring a reliable and sustainable water source.

“This project checks every box—public safety, economic growth, and environmental stewardship,”McCormick added.“I’ll continue doing my part in Washington to ensure this project reaches the finish line.”
