Immigration & Border Security
Immigration has been the fuel for the engine of American progress over our history. In different eras, people from different regions all over the world have come to the United States seeking a better life and pursuing the American Dream, while also contributing greatly to the success and innovative spirit of our nation. My district itself is home to many Indian American immigrants who came to this country for freedom and the hope that their children could live a better life for themselves. The over 59 million people who have immigrated to this country since 1965 have fueled our economy, enriched our culture, and given us a greater skill base.
It is also true, however, that the Biden Administration's open-border policies have created one of the greatest national security crises in generations. The massive influx of illegal immigration seen over the past 4 years has imposed on the sovereignty and safety of our nation. In Congress, I am working to make certain that federal, state, and local law enforcement have the resources and training required to combat the flow of illegal drugs, stop criminal gangs, and end human trafficking. Our border is much too porous, and we have to fix it. Without a secure border, we can't have a secure nation.
Bills:
H.R 569, Birthright Citizenship Act of 2025 (Limits birthright citizenship to prevent illegal migrants from taking advantage of this provision of the Section 1 of the 14th amendment which allows for children born in U.S territory to automatically become citizens)
H.R 273, REMAIN in Mexico Act (Bill would mandate the Director of Homeland Security to adhere to the "Remain in Mexico" policy)
H.R 29, the Laken Riley Act (Allows the Secretary of Homeland Security to detain aliens who have been arrested for burglary, theft, larceny or shoplifting. Bill also authorizes states to sue the federal government for lack of enforcement of such measures)
