Representative McCormick Leads a Group of House Republicans Urging the Middle States Commission on Higher Education to Reevaluate Columbia University’s Accreditation

May 23, 2024

WASHINGTON - Representative McCormick leads a group of House Republicans urging the Middle States Commission on Higher Education to reevaluate Columbia University’s accreditation based on their failure to uphold several standards since Pro-Hamas protests over-run the university campus earlier this year.

“Since Hamas’ brutal attack against the people of Israel on October 7, 2023, there has been a sharp increase in the rise of antisemitic rhetoric and support for the terrorist group across the United States. Columbia University’s failure to address the pro-Hamas protests has resulted in Jewish students on campus being the subject of harassment and even physical violence by pro-Hamas student protestors and faculty.  It is unacceptable that these taxpayer-funded institutions have become forums for promoting antisemitism. That is why my colleagues and I are urging the Middle States Commission on Higher Education to reevaluate Columbia University’s accreditation due to their inability to adhere to quality education standards. Congress must hold these institutions accountable and ensure that American taxpayer dollars do not fund institutions incapable of protecting all its students.” said Congressman Rich McCormick.

Congressman McCormick was joined by Representatives:  Biggs, Boebert, Burgess, D'Esposito, Duyne, Hunt, Langworthy, LaMalfa, Stefanik, Steube, and Weber.
